Ladue's Girls Soccer Squad Itching to Get Out-of-Doors

Home opener with the Normandy Vikings today, weather prevailing.

Ladue’s soccer coach Dave Aronberg is bullish about his team’s chances this year. If the Rams could just get out of doors, that would help. The frigid conditions have kept most practices indoors.

Thursday, the Rams host Normandy at 4 p.m. to open the season.

Last year, the Rams finished 13-12-1, the fifth most wins in the school’s history. On top of that, they lost just three seniors.

The leading scorers return. Natasha Medler scored 13 goals a year ago; Mariana Alisio had 9 and Grace Waldman 8.

Goal keeping is in great shape. Fran Shannon and Jessica Puckett both return with bundles of experience. Shannon is third in Ladue’s history in career shutouts, and will likely add to that total this spring.

The Rams defense looks solid. Returners are Emily Isaacs, Maria Vetter, Jenny Lesorogol and Hadley Newton.

“We have a strong freshman class too, probably the strongest class we have had  in my eight (previous) years of coaching,” said Aronberg.

The Rams welcome freshman Madeline Billeaud to the lineup.

Last season, the Rams peppered the nets with 64 goals; 4th highest in Ladue history. On top of that, they won last year’s Ritenour tournament.

“We are doing something different. We are taking an overnight road trip to Quincy, (Illinois) this year. That should give the team an opportunity to really bond,” said their coach. “I know we will get some stiff competition there,” said Aronberg.

Right now, the coach just wants the weather to warm up a bit so they can play ball.
