Ladue Rams Put The Chill On Jennings On Chili Night

Last night it was Chili Night at Ladue. That assured a nice sized crowd would witness the game with the Jennings Warriors.

Chad Anderson’s Rams were jacked for the occasion. While district families were wrapping up their hot chili and hamburgers and cold drinks, the Rams were knocking the stuffings out of the visiting Warriors.

Junior Austin DaGue, had a strong game, dominating the boards on both ends of the floor with his rebounding prowess and his game-high 15 points and the Rams sealed up a 62-51 Suburban East victory.

The six-foot-eight center is settling into his role of chairman of the boards for Ladue. “That was a good win for us. We dominated them on the boards. We were really up for this game. We had the band, the cheerleaders, the big crowd, we love that,” said DaGue.

“Our transition game was good and we played hard,” said DaGue. Ladue has six o’clock games with Fox Tuesday and University City Wednesday in the Fox Tournament. “We’re in a good position to win the conference title,” Chad Anderson told his team, moments after leaving the floor. “But don’t get comfortable with all these wins. We have a lot more work to do,” he warned them.

Anderson is prodding his team to show more reaction. “You should be excited about winning. It’s like getting a 100 on a test. or at least an A,” he said.

In the early going, it looked a bit iffy for the home team Rams. After jumping to a 5-0 start, Ladue let the Warriors back in, tying the score at 8-8 and 10-10.

Ladue scored the first four points of the second half, opening a 17 point lead, 48-31 and were never headed. By the end of the game, Anderson had swept his bench.

Things are headed the opposite direction for long-time coach Randy Carter who will likely exit the end of this season. Already retired, his team has struggled to  5-12 record. He’s lost players to injuries, had two players transfer to North County Tech and seen others leave the program, or never come out.

Because of some miserable behavior by parents of the team, Jennings was asked to leave the MICDS tournament after 26 years.

For the most part, the fire and desire have left Carter, regarded as one of the upper echelon coaches in St. Louis.

Rheim Holloway led Jennings with 13 points.
