Ladue High Dads Club Golf Tournament

The Ladue Dads Club Raises Money for Students at Golf Outing

A good time was had by all on Wednesday as the final Dads club event of the school year teed off at Forest Park Golf Club. The annual golf scramble tournament included 64 participants that made up 16 teams. Perfect weather, and the Norman K. Probstein Golf Course & Clubhouse in Forest Park greeted the 64 participants.

The golf tournament is the Dads Club’s largest fundraiser of the year. It was feared that turnout would be light this year but that fear was overcome with many players signing on at the last minute and a few walk-ins that were gladly accepted. The tournament is open to virtually everyone.

This year the club initiated a silent auction as an additional fundraiser. The final numbers are not in yet but indications are it was a resounding success. Dads Club committee members were in charge of getting donations that would appeal to Ladue School District parents and golfers. “Diane Patershuk and Trisha Soncasie, co-presidents of the Ladue Parents Association, were instrumental in getting it off the ground,” Gary Hollingsworth, Dads Club president, said.

Rich Jarrett chaired a successful tournament committee.

“This year we gave over $33,000 in donations; spirit committees, art, education, and computer programs were all recipients, not just athletics,." Jarrett said in his welcoming remarks during the dinner following play. “The economy’s been tough and we're getting more and more requests. School budgets have been cut but the Ladue district is lucky enough to have many charitable organizations to help fill the needs."

Hollingsworth , was proud of the accomplishments of the Dads Club this year. “We keep track of how many students are affected by a disbursement and this year 2,248 students benefitted from a Dads Club disbursement; that’s over a student body that totaled 1,242 students," he said. "I’m afraid the needs are going to be more evident next year with budget cuts being implemented.”

Committee members included Manfred Cewe as assistant chair, Bob Glik, Jeff Pernikoff, Jim Vastyan, and Ray Kloppenburg.

Sponsors for the event were Anton Architecture, Bryan Cave, Cornerstone Mortgage, CreatiVenture Law, Dielmann Sotheby’s International Realty, Educator Pension Resources, R.E.A. Homes, M2 Architecture Studio, Metalsco Inc., Minton Homes, R.W. Waugh Inc., Ram Roofing, Stephen F. Bahn Commercial Real Estate Services, Simons Jewelers, Stifel Nicholas – Douglas Myles, and the Gallery At ISC Surfaces.

The Ladue Dads Club has been in existence since 1955, the same year the school was founded, and it has operated continuously ever since. Anyone who has been to a Ladue football game knows the Dads Club. They always have a place setup to grill and serve “Lunch with the Dads Club”.
