Ladue Field Hockey Finally Wins over St. Joseph's Academy

Elise Pellet scores hat trick in first win over Angels in memory.

Ladue was the upset winner of a battle waged for years. For the first time in any of the Ladue coaches memories, Ladue won over rival St Josephs Academy 4-3.

The memory was still burned in the minds of the 2009 season loss to St. Joe when they bounced Ladue from the Midwest Field Hockey final four. Barb Dwyer was especially proud of her team, “We talked before the game and I told them that we could win, we just had to believe.”

“We have a great group of girls this year that responds to new ideas and to adjustments” continued Dwyer, “they’re very coachable and they make it fun to coach them.”

Ladue was fist to score at the 13:09 mark of the first half of a very tight game. Ball possession was near equal until the end as each team traded goals never getting beyond one goal up.

Junior Elise Pellet was the go-getter of the game being in on every one of Ladue’s goals. “It really meant a lot being part of this win after losing in the semi's during freshman year,” said Pellet after the game.

Pellet walked off with the hat trick and assisted on Elena Gresick’s goal. Gresick returned the favor assisting on two of Pellet’s three goals. Courtney Emert assisted on the other Pellet goal

When the perennial underdog went up against St. Joe many thought that this game would be a continuation of the domination over Ladue. All of the games in recent years have been close.

St Joes coach Maggie Potter said after the game. “We have a young team and they need experience. We have lots of first-time varsity starters so we’re finding way to reform and regroup. Our three goals all came from corners, our struggle right now is finishing”

To add to the pressure of a Rival Ladue game “We just came back from a tournament in Chicago this weekend and the girls might be a little tired” Coach Potter added.

Scoring for St Joe’s Hayley Wright, Marigrace Ragsdale, and Madeline Gilstrap.
