Ladue, Burroughs, MICDS in Jamborees Friday Night

Last chance to shine before regular season begins.

The local football teams will take the wraps sort of off their 2011 seasons starting this Friday night.

A whole host of teams will take part in football jamborees around the area.

Burroughs will be in a foursome at Clayton's Gay Field, action starts at 5 p.m. Meanwhile, Ladue takes its place at Kirkwood with the first kickoff at 7 p.m. Jamborees will be held all over the area Friday and Saturday before the regular season begins next week. There is no admission.

MICDS comes out with a real challenge playing mighty Maplewood on the Blue Devils field Friday night. Kickoff is 7 o'clock.

Saturday, Pembroke Hill of Kansas City pays a 1 o'clock visit to John Burroughs. This will be the opening game for new coach Gus Frerotte, former quarterback of the St. Louis Rams.

Both Ladue and Burroughs have big shoes to fill. Ladue lost multi-talented Kortland Webb to graduation. Webb cruised down I-70 to walk on for the Missouri Tigers.

Burroughs lost talented senior quarterback Sam VanDoren, the Ladue-Frontenac Patch Fall Athlete of the Year.

Grant Wallace, a talented two-way player for the Bombers has gone to the Ivy League. The Bombers have all kinds of holes to fill.

MICDS hopes to build on a 5-5 season. Mizzou-bound linebacker Michael Scherer and quarterback Thomas Militello will make the Rams very competitive in 2011. Scherer rushed for 12 TDs last year and Militello passed for 1,943 yards and had 15 TDs.

The format for Friday night is pretty simple. Each team will scrimmage another team for a quarter in  round-robin controled type event. Scrimmages will be held on opposing ends of the field.

Clayton features the host Greyhounds; Burroughs, DuBourg and Duchesne of St. Charles.

At Kirkwood, the Pioneers host Ladue, McCluer Berkeley-South and McCluer.

Each team will then have about five practices remaining before the season starts for keeps.
