Ladue School District Announces Interim Leadership Structure

Interim superintendent duties will alternate between assistant superintendents through the remainder of the calendar year.

After a meeting Monday between the president and the vice president of the Ladue Board of Education and senior district leadership, a new leadership structure will be announced sometime today to address the early departure of Superintendent Dr. Marsha Chappelow.

Dr. Chappelow, who was set to retire at the end of the school year, announced she would take an early leave of absence effective Dec. 1.

“The Board of Education did not make this decision lightly, but ultimately came to the conclusion that reaching this agreement was in the best interest of the district and will lead to a more efficient and productive transition process,” said Board President Jayne Langsam in a news release.

Existing superintendent duties will alternate weekly throughout the remainder of the calendar year. The leadership structure will include Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance Dr. Jason Buckner, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Dr. Judy Sclair and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Donna Jahnke.

This evening, the district will announce a plan for interim responsibilities for Jan. 1, 2013 through the remainder of the school year.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience,” Langsam said in a news release. “ These decisions will be finalized very quickly and I am confident of, and grateful for, the administration’s and Board’s ability to work together effectively and efficiently. We simply need a few hours to get the details ironed out and communicated to those directly impacted.”

The board has also begun working with McPherson & Jacobson LLC in conducting a search for the next superintendent. A new superintendent is expected to be announced in the first quarter of 2013.

Patch will update this story as more details become available.

Your obsession with dimes when much bigger issues are afoot is seriously misplaced. There's a strong odor of gas in the basement, and you're worried about how much the gas leak is going to cost on your monthly bill.

The Post story confirms this does not include sick or vacation time. "Until the end of the academic year, Chappelow will continue to earn her full salary, which is $190,900 this year. No vacation time will be used during the leave."

Except when that "Dime" is on top of a $1 dollar. Almost all these Dr's Professors get major add-ons for extra work hours. It's in their contracts. I would think this LOA --Retirement will cost the District more than the next 6 months budgeted costs. 1st for Marsha. 2nd for all the extra work hours that she did not fulfill. Of course, I could be wrong. But, please don't suggest "Paul Revere" is seriously misplacing bigger issues that I would claim as my "AGENDA". You have followed my comments long enough to think otherwise.

If "vacation" follows most union contracts, it could be a lump-sum payout on Retirement date.

If that's the case, then we can question what we're getting for our $100K. I've got a gut feeling all this has to do with the EEOC investigation that's going on....

According to the district email this morning, Dr. Judy Sclair, the current Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, will be taking on the responsibilities of acting Superintendent. She will be paid an additional $10,000 for taking on the extra duties. The district email said "This will be a cost neutral solution, as there will be offsetting savings directly associated with Dr. Chappelow’s leave, such as eliminated expenses for professional development and travel."
