JBS wins Girls Lacrosse State Championship

John Burroughs School gets their revenge in State Championship over Ursuline Academy in the final seconds, 15-14.

When they met in the regular season and the Ursuline Bears beat the John Burroughs School Bombers in a close match by a single goal 14-13. The state championship proved to be déjà vu; this time it was the JBS Bombers on top by a single goal.

The State championship game was destined to be a tight game from start to finish. The JBS Bombers defeated the Ursuline Academy Bears in the final 7.4 seconds with a game winning goal by Rahney Longley.

At the half started with JBS a comfortable lead 9-6. In the first two minutes, JBS expanded their lead with goals by Charlotte Martin  and Stephanie Kelly.

Ursuline was in a major deficit but battled back with a goal by Nicole May  that was answered by JBS’s Ruth Brown.

The tempo changed for JBS and the play was moving in favor of Ursuline. Three Goals in succession brought the Bears within two goals of JBS for a score of  12-10.

The play tightened up as goals by Ursuline were answered by goals by JBS in succession. In the final 1:19 Ursuline finally managed to tie the game 14-14.

The John Burroughs Bombers were ready for the challenge with the championship winning goal by Longley.
