Jazmyn Ferguson to be honored at Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri fundraising event, Dessert First

Jazmyn Ferguson, a sophomore student at Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School (MICDS), will be honored and receive a scholarship this Thursday at a Girl Scout fundraising event at The Ritz-Carlton. Jazmyn is a Girl Scout Senior and believes that the amazing opportunities she has experienced through Girl Scouting have motivated her to become a leader.

 Jazmyn currently serves as one of two girl members on the Board of Directors. Girl members on the Board of Directors are required to attend all board meetings and other related functions, and be a representative for the Council at various Girl Scout public functions.

Jazmyn said that being a part of the Board of Directors has taught her to be assertive and to speak her opinion. She feels that it is important to do so because she is responsible for representing all fellow Girl Scouts in the Council, and she wants to work to make the program as appealing as possible to all girls.

 Jazmyn was also one of six Girl Scouts from the eastern Missouri Council that traveled to Houston to participate in the Girl Scout Leadership Institute (GSLI). GSLI took place last November and was held parallel to the Girl Scout National Convention. It included hundreds of girls from every Girl Scout Council in the nation. The participants took part in interactive sessions that were designed to excite, inspire and prepare girls to become leaders and encourage them to take action in the world around them.

In addition to her Girl Scout commitments, Jazmyn volunteers with the University City Children’s Center, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and St. Louis Crisis Nursery.

Also, Ladue resident Carolyn Losos, a lifetime Girl Scout and well-known community figure, will be presented with the Individual Legacy Builder award this Thursday at a fundraising event to be held at The Ritz-Carlton.

The Individual Legacy Builder award is earned by someone who exemplifies support of the Girl Scout mission, has been involved with the organization long-term and has contributed greatly to building the legacy of Girl Scouting.

 Losos’ involvement with Girl Scouts includes a role on the Board of Directors for Girl Scouts of the USA for nine years and a position on the Board of Directors for Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri (formerly known as the Girl Scout Council of Greater St. Louis) for four years. In addition to her community involvement with Girl Scouts, Losos has received numerous awards for her outstanding work and has supported many organizations in the St. Louis area including the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Regional Arts Commission and the National Council for Arts & Sciences.

The fundraising event, Dessert First, will take place this Thursday at The Ritz-Carlton hotel. This community event will feature some of the area’s most talented chefs in a culinary competition to create desserts using Girl Scout cookies. Guests are encouraged to taste each of the desserts and vote for the one they like the best. An elegant dinner will follow the competition.
