Holiday Hoop Tournaments Resume Play Today

Ladue, Burroughs, MICDS, St. Joe all see action at various sites.

After the Christmas turkey or ham is all carved up; the desserts are all devoured and the tables are cleared, it will be time to get back to life at the hoops. The tournament ball will be bouncing zany all over Missouri and Illinois starting later today.

The Ladue-Frontenac locals will show their hoop skills all over town.

MICDS boys Quarterfinals

noon: Ladue and St. Charles

1:30 Lutheran North and Duchesne

6 p.m. Miller Career Academy and St. Louis U. High

7:30 p.m. Parkway Central and Westminster.

Cornell Johnson will have the chance to establish himself as one of the premier point guards in the area. Ladue has never won this tournament. Johnson averages 13.8 points per game. Lanky senior center Austin DaGue, pledged to M.I.T. is dropping in 11 points per game.

The 6-2 Rams will need to slow up St. Charles 6-foot-2 guard Casey Teson who is torching the nets at the rate of 19.5 points per game.

The new, improved SLUH Jr. Billikens are coached by former Saint Louis U. star Erwin Claggett and assisted by former Ladue head coach Todd Basler.

Chaminade Round Robin Tournament

Burroughs is 7-0 and meets the host Red Devils at 6 p.m. in Pool A play. The football team mostly makes up the Steve Wilcut coached lineup. Foye Oluokun scores 15.7 points a game, Ezekiel Elliott is hitting 12.6 points a game while front liner Jimmy Carney scores 13.7 points per game. Chaminade, off to a slow start is 3-5. Burroughs won last year’s event.

Girls holiday tournaments

The Ladue Rams meet Confluence Academy in the first round of the Ritenour tournament at 1:30 p.m. today.

MICDS Girls Semifinals

4:30 p.m. Parkway Central and MICDS.

Visitation Holiday Tournament

Today, the quarterfinals will be played.

4 p.m. Parkway South vs Nerinx Hall

5:30 p.m. Visitation vs Incarnate Word (7-0).

7 p.m. Principia vs Blue Springs

8:30 p.m. Webster Groves vs St. Joseph’s Academy (5-0)

Sydney Stipanovich, signed with Pennsylvania is scoring 17.0 points per game. Saint Louis U. bound inside enforcer Erin Nelson is scoring at a 16.6 clip. The Angels are off to a 5-0 start.

Often, the finals are St. Joe and IWA, but Kansas City’s Blue Springs obviously has other plans.
