Panel to Discuss IRA Pros, Cons

To IRA or not to IRA? That is the question.

Panel experts will explore the pros and cons of individual retirement accounts for the discussion “Do you have an IRA for the IRS?” at 8 a.m. June 7 in the Student Government Association Chamber in the Millennium Student Center at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.

Doug Mueller, Janet Bandera, Chris Jacob and Scott Lotspeich will discuss the benefits of a Roth IRA, how the beneficiary designation affects tax deferral and the outlook for beneficiaries and taxes in light of current political discussions.

Lotspeich, BSBA 2007, is the financial services associate for Archer Wealth Management in Ladue, Mo. Archer Wealth Management is an independent financial services firm that specializes in tax-efficient wealth accumulation, retirement, estate and gift planning and business exit strategies.

Bandera, BSBA 1992,  is the owner of Bandera Law Firm in Clayton, Mo., and senior vice president of National Advisors Trust. She is a board member of the Moneta Group Charitable Foundation and chair of the UMSL Planned Giving Committee and a member of Missouri, Illinois and Florida Bar Associations.

Mueller, BSBA 1978,  is president of Mueller Prost PC. Mueller is an industry-known and nationally recognized certified public accountant. He has more than 30 years of experience working with clients to structure assets and decrease tax burdens. He’s a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Missouri Society of CPA.

Jacob is founder and a certified financial planner for Cadeau in Town and County, Mo. He has counseled over 1,000 families regarding the protection and preservation of financial capital. Cadeau specializes in wealth strategies, investments, small business strategies and advising.

The discussion is part of the monthly Breakfast & Business Series sponsored by UMSL’s College of Business Administration.

Breakfast and networking will begin at 7:30 a.m. The discussion will follow. The event is free and open to the public. The Millennium Student Center is on UMSL’s North Campus, 1 University Blvd. in St. Louis County (63121). Reservations are required.
