Community School Sixth Graders Collect for Whole School for Cardinal Glennon Hospital for Children

Part of the community outreach program at the elementary school in Ladue.

Community School students recently donated 400 personal care items for children who are patients are Cardinal Glennon's Medical Center. The items were collected during Community School's annual Fall Family Picnic on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Faculty member Terri Kerley stated, "Often children at Cardinal Glennon's spend long periods of time in the hospital. We're hoping to make those long stays a little brighter and more enjoyable for the pre-teen and teenage patients."

The project for Cardinal Glennon was the first of a number of service projects Community completes throughout the year as part of its Character Education program.

Head of School Matthew Gould says, "Character education through outreach is part of every Community School student's experience. Throughout the course of the year, students have opportunities to support their community both at school and in the broader St. Louis region."

Other types of activities allowing student participation include making meals for St. Patrick's Center, adopting a needy family for the holidays, or collecting warm hats and gloves for children in the winter.
