Burroughs Swim Team Swamped By Cor Jesu, 124-56.

Senior Madison Qualy does her part for a very inexperienced team.

If the John Burroughs swim team had five Madison Qualy type members, they’d be state contenders. They don’t.

Madison Qualy is one of the strongest performers on the Clayton Shaw-Park Tideriders. She’s in the pool swimming year-round.

Wednesday night, she did her part, but the Bombers were swamped literally by a bigger, stronger, more experienced Cor Jesu Academy team. The Bombers lost this dual 124-56. It was almost that bad a year ago.

Most Burroughs swimmers are inexperienced freshmen and sophomores. Most do not swim all year long. The entire team was off for a lengthy Christmas recess.

By the time the rust had sunk to the bottom of the pool, Cor Jesu swimmers were first to touch the end-line after almost every race.

Qualy did distinguish herself, winning the 200 yard Individual Medley in 2:16.66 and first in the 100 yard breast stroke in 1:12.97. She was second on the 200 medley relay which took second place and swam on the event ending 400 yard freestyle.

Following are interviews with Qualy and Coach Leslie Kehr plus an action video and photos from the meet.
