Burroughs Boys Comes From 18 Down to Defeat Westminster 63-61

Sophie Stipanovich reaches the 1,000 point mark enroute to a route of the Burroughs girls.

Simply put, the Burroughs boys basketball team beat Westminster Christian Academy 63-61 in regulation time. It was a game for the ages. This was the type of game that probably should have been tied, and gone a couple of overtimes. It was truly a shame anyone had to lose.

But Burroughs was defending its honor. Their 15-1 record was cut short last week by Crossroads. Down by as many as 18 in the first half, Steve Wilcutt challenged his Bombers to man up at halftime. There was some shouting in the locker-room.

Jimmy Carney played bombs away in the second half, launching three long range 3 pointers; scoring a game-high 22 points along with Ezekiel Elliott’s 20 in order to preserve the victory.

Sadie Stipanovich, who will play for the Lady Billikens of Saint Louis University next year became an exclusive member of the 1,000 point club as the Wildcats trampled Burroughs in the opener of the double header, 65-27 in a running-clock shortened game. Sophie led all scorers with 24 points.

Sunday, Patch.com will have a full account of both games; interviews with coaches and players and a full array of game photos. Come back Sunday to recount these big victories.
