Bombers Double Their Pleasure, Fun With 42-21 Romp Over Priory

Playoff run is in the cards for Burroughs football team.

Burroughs coaches main concerns following a regular season pasting of the Priory Rebels 42-21 was the players recovering from bodily injuries. The game Saturday at the Reb’s new stadium was a hard hitting affair.

Veteran coach Mark Nicholas had a suggestion. “Gentlemen, take a chair into the shower and sit there and soak until your parents throw you out.” He suggested letting the water run off their backs for at least 20 minutes.

Head coach Gus Frerotte had his own idea. “Go to the gas station and buy yourself four bags of ice. Lay on that ice in the tube. It works, I know,” he said.

Bomber defenders put Priory pretty much on ice, not allowing the Rebels to cross the goal line until the second half.

The 9-1 Bombers had a comfortable 21-0 halftime lead.

Senior wide receiver Steven Trulaske was johnny on the spot, covering Sam Hefler’s six yard catch and fumble in the end zone for the initial score.

At the 10:14 mark of the first quarter, Ezekiel Elliott sailed around left end for 79 yards and a 13-0 lead. Less than four minutes later, the Bombers executed a perfect flea flicker with Elliott the recipient of 61 yards and another six points.

Quarterback Davey Holmes ran six yards up the gut for a 28-0 lead at 9:01 of the third quarter.

Priory fought back. Thomas Raybuck went 55 yards on a draw play drawing first blood for Priory. They got late TDs on 2 and 1 yard runs by Raybuck. Burroughs other second half tally was by Foye Oluokun on a nine yard pitch from Holmes.

Frerotte, who got double good news: his daughter Abbie’s field hockey team claimed a 5-1 playoff win over Whitfield in the playoffs told the players to enjoy the moment.

However, the Bombers are back at it Wednesday for a first round playoff game with McCluer Berkeley-South, so he called for a 3 o‘clock Sunday meeting and practice.

Allowing two interceptions and some sloppy tackling, the coach figured there is still more work to be done.
