Award-winning educator helps students tackle global issues

Author David J. Smith Visits Oak Hill School in Frontenac.

Educator and author David J. Smith, creator of the award-winning curriculum Mapping the World by Heart, spent the day with the students and faculty of Oak Hill.

Smith helped the elementary school students better understand subjects like population density, world geography, and children’s rights. Smith won the U.S. Department of Education's A+ for Breaking the Mold Award in 1992 for teaching students how to draw maps of the entire world from memory.

He is the author of the bestselling books If the World Were a Village, If American Were a Village, and This Child, Every Child.
