Anna Nelson, Ladue Track: MVP for Week No. 1

Heading to college in Texas at Southern Methodist or TCU.

Ladue High's Anna Nelson has been a standout for both the cross country and track teams at Ladue. After looking at a variety of schools, she is taking her talents to either SMU or TCU next year.

This is what she told to Patch.com.

Anna Nelson: I have yet to select a college for next year. I was recruited and considered some bigger universities like Mizzou, KU, and University of Mississippi, but have now narrowed it down to Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University, both in Texas.  I plan to run both track and cross country at either school next year.

Patch: How is your season going?

Nelson: My season has gotten off to a good start. We just had our first meet last weekend and although the weather was terrible, I still managed to win the girls' 3200m run. Training has gone well and I'm just hoping to continue to stay healthy and improve as the season advances.  Making it to state again is definitely a goal of mine for this season.

Patch: What is the favorite thing you like about being on your team?

Nelson: I love the closeness of our team.  All of the coaches and athletes all get along very well and we have such a great relationship with each other.  I don't know what I'd do without the support from any of them.

Patch: Comment on any special accomplishments this season so far.

Nelson: It's still really early in the season (we've only competed once), but I was named track captain this year and like I mentioned above, I won my first race of the season.

Patch: Which athlete do you admire the most, and why?

Nelson: I don't really have one athlete that I admire.  I look up to a bunch of collegiate and professional distance athletes because they chose to continue on past high school doing something that they love and are very successful doing so.

Patch: What is your favorite tune in your I-Pod these days?

Nelson: Choosing a favorite song is so tough. I love country music, so I'll just say anything country is always being played in my car or on my iPod.

Voting for MVP Athlete of the Week begins once again on Monday.
