All MICDS in 47-12 Romp Over Soldan in Class 4 First Round Playoff Game

Thomas Militello fires four TDs, Michael Scherer, A.J. Washington and Denzell Conway do the rest.

MICDS quarterback Thomas Militello was definitely under the weather. He had been treated for strep throat for 24 hours. Being hot and sweaty was no deterrence as he fired four more TD passes in a running clock shortened 47-12 win over hapless Soldan in the first round of the Class 4 football playoffs on the Kirkwood Pioneer field.

The Rams, 11-0 win the rights to play Ladue for the second time in the state quarterfinals Monday night. Ladue roughed up Vashon 35-18 at Sumner last night. The rematch of an earlier 56-55 win for MICDS will be Monday night at 7 p.m. at St. Louis U. High.

Minutes after the game ended on the artificial turf of Kirkwood, the plug was pulled on the stadium lights, throwing the whole place into darkness. The Rams left Soldan pretty much in the dark, scoring on their first six possessions of the game. Militello connected on TD passes of 39 yards to Foster Bundy, 6 yards to Michael Scherer and 9 yards to Jack Howell before sitting for the evening. He now has 34 TD passes for the year.

A.J. Washington got it going with a 32 yard run in the first quarter. Scherer, running out of the wildcat bulled in from the three, Denzell Washington scampered left end on a Militello strike for 51 yards and Bundy’s catch gave the Rams a 28-0 first quarter lead.

Soldan finally got on the board when Paul McRoberts ran 10 yards for a score and hauled in a 15 yard pass late in the game from Steven Irving.

Were the Rams satisfied with the results. The team issued a resounding collective “no” in the post game huddle. Coach Josh Smith reminded his team, there’s more work to be done.

The reserves got in some  plays, doing the heavy lifting in the entire fourth quarter.

The Rams are 11-0, Soldan finishes the season 7-4. They were hampered throughout with numerous penalties.
