Litzsinger Road in Ladue reminds me of what Ladue must have been like when residents lived in country estates on multiple acres. A time before suburbia became popular with post war homes and neighborhoods. This tree lined windy road is one of my favorites in the area and it reminds me of other roads that I would see in my home state, Pennsylvania.
Among my favorites homes on this road are the not so large Ladue “cottages” that sit on several acres of land. These are the homes where you drive down a narrow gravel drive to reach the front of the house. Some of these modest homes on large lots are sought after and are coming down to be replaced with very large and grand newly constructed homes. I appreciate this construction and enjoy viewing and selling them, but I am also a bit saddened by what was given up to make way for these new luxury homes. I am also very intrigued by the mid-century modern homes scattered throughout this road, some of which we also continue to lose to new construction.
Whether it is Ladue “cottages”, modern mid-century, new construction, or grand country estates that are 85 years old, Litzsinger for me is the “Romantic” Road in Ladue.
