Disagree With Your Assessed Property Value? File an Appeal

If you disagree with the St. Louis County Assessor's estimate of the value of your property, you have until July 8 to file an appeal.

The following information was provided by the Saint Louis County Department of Revenue in a news release.

Property owners who disagree with the Assessor’s estimate of the value of their property have until July 8, 2013 to file an appeal to the St. Louis County Board of Equalization. The statutory deadline to appeal is set via state law as the second Monday in July (July 8, 2013).

Appeals can be filed online at http://revenue.stlouisco.com/AssessmentAppeal/OnlineAppeal/OnlineAsmtAppeal.aspx 

Paperless filers who waive their right to attend their appeal hearing will be provided with the opportunity to upload their supporting documentation. All others need to bring their documentation to the hearing.

Paper appeal forms can be obtained as outlined below: 

  • Download online at: http://stlouisco.com/YourGovernment/CountyDepartments/Revenue/BoardofEqualization.aspx 
  • At the BOE office located on the second floor at 41 South Central Avenue in Clayton 
  • Appeal forms can be mailed if the requestor provides a self-addressed, stamped envelope 
  • Residential and agricultural appeal forms are available at the County satellite offices. In West County, the address is 74 Clarkson Wilson Center, Chesterfield, MO 63017.
All appeals must be received or postmarked by July 8.

BOE appeal hearings will be conducted in July and August where property owners are expected to provide information that supports their own opinion of value. 

St. Louis County also offers property owner advocates to help residential property owners through this process.  

Advocate services can be requested as follows:

  • Leaving a message on the advocate hotline at 314-615-4611 
  • Sending an email to Advocate@stlouisco.com 
  • Through the Assessor’s appraisal staff
