Solar Bill Again Sent Back to Planning and Zoning in Frontenac

Unsettled issue continues for more than six months.

Frontenac residents Tom and Becky Minogue will have to wait at least another month to see if the city will allow them to put solar panels on the roof of their home. This issue has lingered for more than six months.

The Frontenac Board of Aldermen took its only piece of unfinished business, Bill. No. 2011-1686, an ordinance dealing with Title IV of the Municipal Code of Ordinances to add a new section titled Solar Energy for Chapter 405 and laid it on the table. The issue has been sent back to planning and zoning for review in August.

What the city did do was honor Fire Captain Dean Everett for 20 years of service to the fire department. Several fellow firefighters were on hand to witness the issuance of a plaque.

“We commend you on 20 years of service and know the next 20 will go by quickly, too,” Mayor Keith Krieg said.

In other business, City Manager Bob Shelton announced the hiring of a new police officer, George Koch Jr. Koch is a July 14 graduate of the Eastern Missouri Police Academy in St. Charles. Koch replaces Officer Ryan Cornelius, recent graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA.

Tuesday was a night of sorting out a variety of odds and end bills and resolutions. The board unanimously cleaned up ordinances dealing with conflict of interest, updated the employee’s personnel manual, and authorized funds from road and bridge tax revenues to go into the capital improvement fund.

They also amended the ordinance dealing with the compensation for performing the duties of city manager, and finalized all settlements with Arcturis for design services of the new municipal facility.

The aldermen also authorized the mayor to finalize the re-striping and painting of crosswalks by St. Louis County on Clayton Road west of Lindbergh and to enter into a contract for the Oak Gate Crossing Creek Bank Stabilization Project.

The mayor was also authorized to enter into an ambulance agreement with the Creve Coeur Fire Protection District.

Probably the biggest news in Frontenac this week was the grand opening of the Pottery Barn store for kids and teens on the grounds of Plaza Frontenac. City Manager Shelton reported large crowds and long lines at the check-out counter Saturday.
