Rock Hill Quarry Special Use Permit Extended for 5 More Years

The Rock Hill Quarry, located at the extreme southwest corner of Ladue off Old Warson Road and McKnight Road will have an amended special use permit for the next five years. Quarry officials asked for a 10-year extension, but following a 7-4 recommendation of the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission, the council settled on five.

Rock Hill officials appealed they have always been good neighbors, having met the rigid licensing standards of local regional and state-wide governing agencies.

The 19 acre site is filled with non-sanitary waste, mostly construction dirt, and building material debris such as dry wall, lumber and similar materials. The Quarry has existed almost as long as anyone can remember pre-dating the 1950s or even before the city was incorporated more than 75 years ago.

Acting Fire Chief appointed

Jeff Johnson, Deputy Fire Chief for the City of Ladue was promoted to Acting Fire Chief, following the sudden resignation of former chief Eric Hinson. At the same time, retired Fire Captain Andy Brown has returned to the city’s force as Johnson’s deputy director.

Brown, a fire consultant will be paid $45 an hour and will have a city vehicle to get back and forth when his services are needed. Brown will lead fire scene activities when Johnson is not available. Until recently, Johnson had been on call 24/7. The city continues its regional search for a permanent new fire chief.

Adding to the police fleet

The council approved the purchase of a new Ford Explorer from Dave Sinclair Ford, the third of its kind for the police department fleet. For safety and storage capability, Chief Rich Wooten recommended an SUV over another sedan. With trade in, the net for the new vehicle is $23,711.00.

Other city business

Liquor licenses were renewed for Schnucks Markets at 8867 Ladue Rd. and 10275 Clayton Rd. and for Lester’s Restaurant at 9906 Clayton Road.

City Attorney John Maupin is completing a new ordinance to bring the current liquor license up to modern and timely standards.

The council approved change orders for a new city ambulance in the amount of $1,610.00

A contract was approved for O.R. Colon Associates to negotiate 15 easements related to the Litzsinger Road creek project, not to exceed $36,225. The fee is for legal work, it does not include the purchase price of any land.

The next city council meetings will be held Nov. 11 and Dec. 17.
