Olivette's Tracy McCreery Seeks Second Term as State Representative

Previously she served one year after winning a special election in 2011.

One year after a special election that saw obtain a seat in the Missouri House of Representatives, she hopes voters will choose her for a second term.

McCreery is running to represent the newly redistricted District 71. She previously represented District 83, which included Olivette, Overland and a portion of University City. She resides in Olivette.

The new District 71 encompasses portions of Maryland Heights, Creve Coeur, Olivette and unincorporated St. Louis County.

She said District 71 is quite diverse. It includes people from all income levels, she said, and really reflects St. Louis County as a whole.

Like other parts of the state, McCreery said the economy is the biggest issue facing District 71, along with lack of job creation. She said the economy and education policy go hand-in-hand.

McCreery said her first year in the House went well. She said she got a good taste of things from constituent services to House floor interaction to committee experiences.

No Republican is seeking the 71st district seat, but .

After a year as state representative, McCreery said she’s confident going into the Democratic primary.

“I take every challenge seriously, but I feel like I’ve done a good job as state representative,” she said. McCreery added she feels voters will recognize that on election day.

The congressional primary is set for Aug. 7.
