Ladue Looking for a Draft Ordinance Dealing With Limited English Proficiency
This has to do with offering assistance for any citizens who do not speak English well.
If Ladue wants to have any future hopes of getting federal grants for such things as sidewalk projects, then the city must comply with regulations such as Title VI, which relates to equal opportunity and Limited English Proficiency (LEP), which it has for done for years now.
But this time, the Ladue City Council adopted a resolution to put it firmly on the books.
“We apply this (Title VI) to all the business we do in the city,” said Ladue’s administrator Michael Woolridge.

Now, the council wants to take it a step further. At the request of council members, City Attorney John Maupin will research language for a draft ordinance for their consideration. Much of this work has already been put in place by the St. Louis Municipal League.
These policies must be squarely in place when dealing with contractors under the auspices of federal grants.

The council approved the draft request by voice vote of 5-0. “This has been long overdue for the City,” said Maupin.
