Major Storm Pounds St. Louis. Extensive Damage Being Accessed This Morning

Tornado Spotted on the Ground Southwest of Lake St. Louis, Moving Into St. Louis County.

Tornado Update: Lambert International Airport appears to have taken a direct shot from a tornado at 8:14 p.m. C.S.T. Many large plate glassed windows were blown out, ground vehicles were lifted onto buildings and vehicles were slammed into the terminal. The terminal has been evacuated and the Transporation Safety Administration (TSA) has suspended operation and no flights are coming in or going out. Passengers on awaiting planes are now being taken off and allowed to leave the facilities. Tower personnel witnessed the entire events unfold. Dispatches in Ladue and Frontenac report no 911 calls for emergencies, and no reports of property damage has been reported.

KSDK is reporting two people were transported to the hospital with injuries but the extent of the injuries is unknown.

KMOX Radio is reporting major damage at Lambert International Airport. large plate glassed windows were blown out, and heavy damage was reported to Councourse C. A tornado was reported at the airport at 8:14 p.m. C.S.T. Planes were blown about the tarmac and passengers in the course were reported bloodied and injured. Stay tuned to Patch. com for updates.

For the second night in a row heavy thunderstorms rolled into St. Louis, causing severe damage in its wake.

KSDK TV has been broadcasting live continuous weather reports for more than an hour. Tornado sirens have been sounding off and on the better part of an hour. Hail 4 inches in diameter, the size of ping pong balls pounded communities west of St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals baseball game with Cincinnati was stopped minutes after beginning at 7 p.m. C.S.T.

The National Weather Service is predicting heavy storms to run through Tuesday, dumping more than 10 inches of rain on the area during this period.

Those in the wake of the storm are urged to take cover and seek shelter in basements or other low areas where possible. After a brief lull, heavy rains are pounding Ladue once again.
