Medical Examiner: Martin Overdosed on Oxycodone

St. Louis County prosecutor's office continues investigating death of Busch IV's girlfriend.

An accidental oxycodone overdose killed Adrienne Martin, the St. Louis County medical examiner's office revealed Wednesday, according to local and national print and broadcast reports.

St. Louis County forensics administrator Suzanne McCune said the full report from Martin's toxicology exam wouldn't be released until the prosecuting attorney's investigation is complete, according to the Associated Press. She would not say whether other drugs were found in Martin's system, the AP reported.

Martin, 27, of St. Charles, girlfriend of former Anheuser-Busch CEO August Busch IV, was pronounced dead early Dec. 19 at Busch's estate in Huntleigh.

The statement said questions regarding the report "should be directed to the appropriate law enforcement agencies."

It remained unclear whether the finding could result in any criminal charges.

Monday afternoon, the St. Louis County prosecuting attorney's office released this brief statement: "The investigation is ongoing, and we hope to have something in the very near future."

According to various Internet sources,  oxycodone is prescribed for moderate to severe pain; if it is crushed, the drug can be abused via injection or snorting, leading to coma or death.

Oxycodone was found in the bloodstream of Australian actor Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental overdose in January 2008 at age 28.

Busch, 46, was the last in a long family line to head Anheuser-Busch, which InBev bought in a hostile takeover in 2008, two years after Busch took over  upon his father's retirement.
