Fourth Consecutive Day of Heavy Rains

Heavy rains, embedded with lightening and thunder are cascading down on the St. Louis area for the fourth consecutive day. This is just adding to the misery of those who are trying to collect their valuables in tornado-ravaged areas of St. Charles, North St. Louis County and Southern Illinois.

Rivers and creeks are threatening to come out of their banks and an earthen levee is threatening to fail in Poplar Bluff, MO, 150 miles southwest of St. Louis. More than 1,000 residents there had to be evacuated to higher ground. The Mississippi River at Chester, Ill, some 50 miles south of St. Louis is expected to crest more than 13 feet over flood stagel. Many low-lying areas in St. Louis are now expected to be flooded in the coming days.

More rain is in the forecast through Wednesday. Lambert International Airport is beginning to recover from being struck directly by a tornado and flight capacity has reached beyond 90 percent with hopes of reaching 100 percent by tomorrow.
