Lucky for all, fire fighters and police called to Saint Peter's Church in Ladue Wednesday morning turned out to be mostly a false alarm. Still, this was the big story of the week in Ladue.
Fire-fighters from the Cities of Ladue and Brentwood tended immediately to a call by the staff at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church, 110 North Warson Rd. in Ladue. The church is located on the northeast corner of Ladue and Warson roads.
Firemen quickly investigated an odd smell from a mechanical unit in the building. A staff of four employees was not evacuated from the building at the time. Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Johnson of Ladue directed the scene.
The Rev. J. Stephen Bergmann, a church associate arrived for the regular morning staff meeting, only to be greeted by the police and fire personnel on the scene.
Church members were arriving on the scene to inquire if all was well.
Brentwood fire fighters were brought in just for a second set of eyes. There was no fire, and no injuries reported and things returned quickly to normal. There never was any fire or smoke in the unit of the church to report.
