Hotspot Sandwich Locations in Ladue and Frontenac

Whether dining in or on the go, choices are aplenty.

Grabbing lunch on the go is not always an easy task.  Choosing where and when to go are factors that must be taken into account to avoid the long wait time and crowds.  The four local Frontenac and Ladue lunch hotspots I dined at were (in alphabetical order):  Cardwell’s on the Plaza, Companion, Deer-Creek Cafe, and Schneithorst’s.   Each location offered exemplary service and food.  Here is a taste of what the locals are enjoying at each venue:

Cardwell’s

The menu at Cardwell’s on the plaza changes daily offering a variety of choices for every pallet.  Katie Kalist, manager of Cardwell’s said: “the Reuben (as pictured), French dip and Veggie sandwiches are our most popular.”  She also added: “reservations are taken and suggested between 11:30 and 1:30.”  The Reuben with the fresh potato salad along with some house made chips (taken from my son’s plate) was delicious.  I noticed that there were many types of people dining:  shoppers, business associates and friends meeting for lunch.   Although we went during the busy time, the service and food were fantastic.

Companion

More than just a bakery, Companion offers a fantastic menu for both breakfast and lunch.  Jodi Allen of Companion said: “if you want to avoid the busy lunch hour you can now do express ordering online.”  She also added that: “our most popular sandwiches are: Crisp Fall Day, Cocktail Party, Frenchie (as pictured) and Fa La La La La.”   Allen went on to add: “we offer a sack lunch which is a great lunch combination and offers not only a sandwich but sides and a dessert as well.”  The bread being so fresh really makes for a great sandwich.  Like other lunch locations they offer the ease of eating in or carry out as well as eating out at one of the tables on the sidewalk (which is nice when you have small kids).  The food, service, and ordering options make Companion an easy choice.

Deer-Creek Coffee

The old Starbucks location on Clayton road has turned into a new neighborhood hotspot for coffee as well as sandwiches.  Known for their fantastic coffee, Deer Creek Coffee also offers a great menu which features sandwiches named after well-known Ladue streets.  Frank Grund, general manager said: “the Somerset is our most popular sandwich and all food can be ordered in or you can call ahead for pick-up.”  The pretzel bread that the Somerset is made with is delicious, but I also enjoy their lox on bagel.  They offer the ease (especially when in a hurry or with kids) of eating in or carry-out.  Do not be fooled that they only serve coffee, they offer a fantastic menu.

Schneithorst’s

For nearly 100 years the Schneithorst family has been providing great meals to many.  Dan Fox, manager of Schneithorst’s said: “our most popular sandwiches include: the corned beef reuben, turkey club (as pictured), and famous breaded cod sandwich.”  Fox also recommends: “if you want to avoid the crowds at lunch come a little later for lunch after 1:30.”  You do not have love German food to love Schneithorst’s as they offer a menu that caters even tto the youngster customers.

Whether dining or out, these favorite neighborhood lunch locations are sure to satisfy your appetite.
