Ray Beckman, Burroughs Long Time Soccer Coach Passed Away Last Week

Beckman coached Bombers for 51 years. Field named in his honor.

Mr. Ray Beckman, soccer coach at John Burroughs for 51 years passed away July 13, 2011. He was born June 30, 1925 and was 86 years old at the time of his passing.

Visitation is set for 10-10:30 a.m. today at St. Clare of Assisi Church in Ellisville. A Funeral Mass will follow. Mr. Beckman was inducted into the St. Louis Soccer Hall of fame in 1980.

He was a member of the 1948 US Olympic soccer team. He began coaching at Burroughs in 1949, and retired in 2000 after 51 years. The soccer field and the annual tournament at John Burroughs are both named in his honor.
