Late Peter Sauer Had Ties to St. Louis

Former Stanford basketball star died in pickup game in New York.

Peter Sauer, 35, died during a recreational league pickup basketball game in White Plains, NY.

The medical examiner determined the former basketball star died of an enlarged heart. He did fracture his skull, falling backwards during the informal outdoor game.

He is survived by a wife and three young children. Until recently, he was in the investments operations of Bank of America.

Sauer played in four NCAA basketball tournaments including reaching the Final Four in St. Louis in 1998. He was the son of former Blues and Cardinals President Mark Sauer and was born in St. Louis and went to school in Pittsburgh.

Mark Sauer has relocated to the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area and is working in a school with mostly at-risk students.
