Former Burroughs Star Athlete Passes Away

Leigh Strassner leaves behind a legacy in tennis, the sport he loved.

Leigh S. Strassner, who was very influential in tennis circles in St. Louis passed away on February 5, 2012.

Stassner was born February 10, 1935 and graduated John Burroughs in 1953. He played on the state basketball championship team and was captain of the tennis team at Cornell University.

He is survived by four children and numerous grand children. He was married to Carolyn Sachs and later divorced.

He was founder and president of Strassner Company, builder of tennis courts. He was a ranking national tennis player, and active in the Missouri Valley Tennis Association and the United States Tennis Association.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 19 noon at Temple Israel Congregation in Creve Coeur.

The family has requested contributions be made to the Leigh Strassner Memorial Fund at John Burroughs School.
