Community School 6th Graders Donate to Oklahoma Tornado Victims

Community School students donate to tornado victims.

Each year, sixth graders at Community School raise money to buy a gift for the school in honor of their graduation. They traditionally hold a bake sale during afternoon carpool for two days in May. Proceeds typically might go toward a bench or a new water fountain. This year, however, the class unanimously decided that the funds raised – just over $2,000 – would go to help the victims of the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma. Head of School Matthew Gould commented, “This is the perfect example of character education in action – kids helping kids. Instead of purchasing something for themselves, our students are thinking of others in a time of critical need. In their own small way, it is great to see kids making a difference.”
