MICDS In the Holiday Mood With 8th Annual Turkey Train

Entire student body from elementary to upper school collects turkeys and canned goods for holiday drive.

Thanks to the generosity of the students and families at Mary Institute and Country Day School (MICDS) thousands of less fortunate St. Louisans will enjoy a festive Thanksgiving meal.

For the 8th straight year, the student body from Upper, Middle School and Beasley Elementary collected thousands of pounds of turkey and thousands of pounds of non-perishable canned goods to make up the holiday donations. Everything goes directly to the St. Louis Area FoodBank.

For the better part of 45 minutes, students passed turkeys hand to hand from the commons at the Upper School all the way to the James McDonnell Center located at the elementary school. It was a festiveĀ  morning as music blared on outdoor speakers.

Last year, the 1,234 students who make up the student body collected nearly 8,000 pounds of food, enough to make up 8,000 meals.

This annual tradition, started by a former MICDS Upper School principal has become a mainstay in the St. Louis community during the holiday season.
