Global Trade Scholar to Speak at UMSL
An international business leader who recently joined a prominent Washington, D.C., think tank as a global trade scholar will discuss U.S. policy in Asia Jan. 31 at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.
Glen S. Fukushima will speak on “Resetting U.S. Policy in Asia: Implications for Japan” at 5:50 p.m. in Century Room A of UMSL’s Millennium Student Center. The program will be preceded by a reception at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Fukushima is a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress. His work focuses on U.S.–Japan relations, U.S. foreign policy in East Asia and international trade.

Prior to becoming a Senior Fellow at CAP, Fukushima was a senior executive with several multinational corporations. He was the senior vice president of Airbus SAS, and chairman and director of Airbus Japan K.K. He also served as president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan and is a former deputy assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Japan and China. He’s credited with opening Japanese markets in numerous sectors for U.S. exports during his time at the USTR.
Fukushima is a published author in both English and Japanese on topics ranging from political economy to international law.

Fukushima is a graduate of Stanford (Calif.) University and Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., where he received his JD and studied in the MBA and PhD programs. He also studied in Japan at Keio University and at the University of Tokyo as a Fulbright Fellow.
