Final NTSB Safety Report Has Been Issued for Teutenberg Fatal Family Plane Crash

Pilot error cited in the final report by the NTSB.

The final NTSB (National Transportation & Safety Board) report has been issued concerning the plane crash and death of 7 members of the late Fred Teutenberg, Jr. family of Niceville, FL in the Panhandle area of Florida. Teutenberg was a 1987 graduate of MICDS, his wife Terresa graduated from Francis Howell North High School in 1991.

This is the report issued by the NTSB.

The report finds that the pilot approached the airport in Demopolis, Alabama too low and too far out. Teutenberg was a highly-qualified pilot and current in his training and all indications, quite competent at the controls.

The family was returning home in a Cesna 421C on Saturday, July 9, 2011.

The family had flown from Florida to attend a family function in St. Louis, and was returning for Sunday church services at home.

The report indicates the plane was well maintained at the time of the accident. The accident combined a lot of bad luck and misjudgment upon approach and unfortunately, pilots only get once chance to get it right. Though this was deemed pilot error, it could have happened to anyone.
