ST. LOUIS OVARIAN CANCER AWARENESS ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEMBERS, OFFICERS

St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness Board of Directors recently elected new officers and directors to fulfill a strategic plan it adopted recently. Elected were:

 

  • President: Beth Hudson – Beth Hudson completed her first two-year term as president in June 2013, and will be serving a one-year extension to help implement SLOCA’s recently adopted strategic plan. She is an ovarian cancer survivor who carries the BRCA1 gene mutation. Beth is committed to fulfilling the mission of SLOCA by raising awareness, funding research, and supporting survivors.

  • Treasurer: Jonathan E. Becker, CPA – Jonathan Becker is a partner in the firm Becker & Rosen, of Clayton, and he specializes in individual, business and fiduciary tax and financial preparation and planning. Becker’s wife is a survivor of ovarian cancer.

 

  • Recording Secretary: Carol Nachtweih – Carol Nachtweih has been actively engaged in SLOCA since 2010. Two of Carol’s sisters were identified as carrying the BRCA-1 gene mutation, which increases the risk for ovarian and breast cancer - her involvement with SLOCA is a reflection of her desire to “spread the word.”  She currently is employed full-time at Mercy Healthcare as an executive assistant.

  • Vice President-Awareness and Education: Lisa Sienkiewicz – A 7-year survivor of stage 1 endometrial and ovarian cancers, Lisa Sienkiewicz has been a volunteer with SLOCA since 2006. She is the Midwest Regional Coordinator of the “Survivors Teaching Students: Saving Women’s Lives” program for the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, and has served as a consumer reviewer on the Ovarian Cancer Research Panel of the Congressionally-Directed Medical Research Programs in Washington, D.C.

 

  • Vice President-Development: Karen L. Scheible – Karen Sheible is passionate about increasing awareness and raising funds for research, having lost both her mother and a                            friend to ovarian cancer. Karen has 30 years of professional and volunteer experience in advocacy and development with nonprofits. 

 

  • Vice President-Members: Lisa McAllister-Price – Lisa McAllister-Price has been a SLOCA volunteer since 2011. She had a successful career in medical equipment sales for more than 25 years, and has volunteered with and served on several boards of directors for a variety of St. Louis community and healthcare-related organizations.

 

  • Vice President-Communications and Message: Jan Paul – Jan Paul is a 6-year survivor of Stage 3-B ovarian cancer, and she has volunteered and served on SLOCA’s board since 2008. A retired editor for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Jan will continue in her leadership role with the organization responsible for SLOCA’s website, newsletters, marketing and public relations efforts.

 

  • Director at Large: Alene Becker, PhD – Alene Becker is a survivor of Stage 3-C ovarian cancer.  Retired from Anheuser-Busch after 22 years of service, she recently led SLOCA through a process of strategic organizational planning that culminated in the board’s adoption in March 2013 of their five-year comprehensive plan.

 

  • Director at Large: Ellen Levine – Ellen Levine is the Director of Training and Organization Development at Graybar Electric Co. Previously, she spent was the Director of Leadership and Organization Development at the Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. in St. Louis.  

 

  • Director at Large: Nancy Larson-Vomund – Nancy Larson-Vomund is an oncology nurse who channeled her love for her patients into action by helping survivors in establishing St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness in 2002.  She retired from her position with Washington University School of Medicine’s Gynecologic Oncology department in 2011.

 

St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness is a 501(c)3, tax-exempt organization, which was established in 2002. SLOCA’s mission statement reflects a commitment to impact ovarian cancer survivorship by promoting awareness of early warning signs and standard of care, funding ovarian cancer research, and supporting survivors.
