How do I love thee let me list the ways – on a cookie or a doggie biscuit.

Valentine Day cookies are like edible greeting cards. They can express your message of affection while satisfying your sweetie’s sweet tooth. And let’s face it, cookies are one of life’s simple pleasures that are easily given for a number of holidays and Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to confess your love atop one or two or three of them.

You can buy scrumptious Valentine treats at any local bakery or grocery store, preloaded with traditional messages like “I Heart You,” “Be Mine,” “Love” and “XOXO” or personalize the message with something sappy like “You Complete Me” or “Our Love Is Perfect.” The beautiful “human” cookies shown here are from Companion Café located at 9781 Clayton Road in Ladue. They are freshly homemade and yummy.

For those hopeless romantics who are both artistic and know your way around a kitchen, homemade Valentine cookies are sure to warm your darling’s heart. There are endless ways to express your affection in frosting and share what is in your heart. The recipe below for rolled sugar cookies will get you started; decorating the final product is up to you.

If the object of your affection is of the furry kind, you can find Valentine doggie cookies at Treats Unleashed. They are homemade right in the store in a traditional convection oven. Human ingredients are used for their doggie cookies just like the ones you use for human cookies except there is no salt or sugar in the recipe.  They are 100 percent safe for your pet. Ask about their fish bites for cats and dogs and human treats that are served every Saturday. Hint: If you like chocolate chip cookies, you will love their human treats.

This Valentine’s Day let cookies send your message of love to the people and puppies in your life.
