The Blown Away Blow Dry Bar is Fully Operational in Ladue

The business has been servicing customers for six months, well ahead of the final construction of the Colonial MarketPlace in Ladue.

J.J. Crane is a 31-year-old graduate of John Burroughs who worked for owner Jerry Reinsdorf and the Chicago Bulls and White Sox, specializing in company investments the past nine years. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she first interned with the Chicago Bears before moving to the south side Chicago sports operations. An admitted tom boy, she played tennis at Burroughs, and sports is in her blood.

After much soul searching, Crane left her career this winter in Chicago to return home and go into business with her mother Betty Goran of Ladue.

The two are co-proprietors of the Blown Away Blow Dry Bar, a full style hair styling and makeup business operational the last six months at the reincarnated Colonial MarketPlace in both Ladue and Clayton. (The city borders go right down the middle of the Splash store.

This will be the best Mothers’ Day ever for Goran. “We are working together, and we are really having fun,” said the mom.

Blown Away is a service on the go for busy housewives as well as working professionals. Signature blowouts are offered at cost-effective prices. The menu includes an array of products and services such as:

  • Straight & Sleek
  • Hollywood Glam
  • Beachy Waves
  • Let’s Curl Up
  • Pony Up
  • Short and Sassy.

Clients can browse booklets to chose the style that best suits them.

This is a business within a business. The Kiss & Makeup bar offers a quick blown away experience. Customers can get anything from light touch ups to full air brush service.

Blown Away has 23 employees, including stylists, managers, receptions and makeup artists, all quickly expanding their client bases. Some customers come in for a brush up styling every working day of the week.

By any stretch, Blown Away is far more than just a drop-in 20-minute service stop. Each station has I-pads for client use. The facility offers wifi connectivity and the studio is open for after-hour party rentals.

“When I worked for the White Sox and the Bulls, I traveled a lot with the teams, and I would see these kinds of business (blow drive services) on the East and West coasts. I told my mother, we ought to do this in St. Louis.

And as they say, the rest is history.
