Splash Landing, At Last In Ladue

Three stores consolidated into one at 8811 Ladue Road in the Old Lammert's Center.

After 25 years of successful business with three locations in St. Louis, Splash store owners Joni Ridgway and Kyrle Boldt III have started their 26th year of business by centralizing their three stores and opening a boutique in the heart of Ladue and Clayton.

What started as a surf shop in 1985 where customers could buy baggy colorful jam shorts, the store now features a full line of casual and formal dresswear for women.

The line of outfits includes dresses, tops, premium denims, jewelry, and a full line of year round swimwear. A line of shoes includes everything from flip flops to boots to dress heels.

After closing their store off of Manchester Road in Rock Hill in August of 2010, their location in the Chesterfield Mall closed two months later in October. When the Galleria location closed this spring in March, no Splash locations were open for a month and a half while Ridgway and Boldt searched for a new location.

Since the official store opening on June 23rd, Ridgway and Boldt have been very pleased with their choice of location which has 3,000 square feet of retail space. Now located at 8811 Ladue Road, their store is located almost at the dividing line of Ladue and Clayton. “When you’re standing in the store, three fourths of our store is located in Ladue, and the other one fourth is located in Clayton,” says Ridgway. With the heart of their customers being from these two areas, this location is essentially the perfect place.

There were several reasons that lead to the decision of opening one central store for all the Splash customers. “After listening to our customers over time, we realized that boutique shopping was much easier and more convenient for them,” says Ridgway. Without the hustle and bustle of navigating through a mall, shoppers at Splash will enjoy the new convenience that boutique shopping offers them. Plenty of parking is right in front at their door step.

Along with the new location for the Splash store, there have also been changes made to what items are sold. Clothing for men is no longer sold at the new store, as it was at previous locations. The choice to focus on women’s clothing has definitely added to the overall design and look of the store. In addition to cutting off the sales of men's clothing, new price points have been introduced to the store. The new brands that offer the new price points that have certainly attracted more customers.

"We believe with our pricing, espeically in our dress for less section (all items under $100), we will be popular with high school girls and their moms," said Ridgway. The Bohemian section should also be popular with the teens.

For the owners, one of the greatest advantages of this new store is being able to interact with the customers. Owning three stores at once made it difficult for Ridgway and Boldt to get to know the shoppers, and their hopes are that this new store will allow them to be more involved with their customers.
