Lion Dance Chases Away Evil Spirits in Olivette

Kung Fu dancers perform at the Mobil station on Olive Street Road.

Monday was certainly international day in the city of Olivette. The Wallis Companies and the Mobil Mart at 9371 Olive Blvd. celebrated the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dragon in grand style.

Chinese lion dances from the Kung Fu group Shaolin Lohan Pai in Woodson Terrace did the Dragon dance in the store and on the parking lot to bring good luck for the next year. This is the Wallis’ Company’s way of reaching out to its Asian neighbors in Olivette, University City and other nearby communities.

The dancers were accompanied by clashing cymbals and drums, making loud noises to frighten monsters and all things evil.

The dancers concluded by smashing the head of lettuce hanging in the front door of the Mart, and by taking their art form all the way to the street.

Celebrating the Chinese New Years was a show stopping and colorful event in the City of Olivette.
