Got Expired Drugs? Time to Turn them In

Ladue pharmacy to collect expired drugs this Saturday.

The United States Drug Enforcement Agency is conducting its second annual "Take Back" campaign for unused or expired drug prescriptions this Saturday throughout the nation.

The Ladue Rexall Pharmacy at 9832 Clayton Rd. in Ladue will be the collection point 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. A uniformed Ladue Police Officer will be assisting with the program.

"This was a very big success last year. Ladue Pharmacy asked if we'd participate, and I said sure," said Ladue's police chief Rich Wooten.

Last year, there were more than 4,000 take-back sites in all 50 states and 242,000 pounds or 121 tons of prescription drugs were collected.

The drugs will be dumped into cealed containers and incinerated and the plastic bottles will be recycled. All giving is anonymous. No names will be asked.

"We expect this campaign to be even bigger and better," the chief said. Disposing of drugs by dumping them into toilets is definitely the wrong way to go about it. That fouls the water system.
