A Breath of Fresh Air, Falling in Love and Fighting Cancer, This Week's Top Social Event Picks

You can make a difference in the live of those in St. Louis and beyond by your generous support of three local philanthropic organizations at their annual events.

The Charity Event: An Orchid AAFAir

Save the date: Saturday, March 10, 2012, 6:00 p.m. cocktail reception and silent auction; 7:30 p.m. dinner and live auction; 8:45 p.m. dancing to the sounds of The Spectrum Band

The Beneficiary: Proceeds benefit the life-saving medical and educational programs that the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, St. Louis Chapter (AAFA) provides to the St. Louis community.

Get the Scoop: Join Master of Ceremonies, Charlie Brennan of KMOX and Auctioneer, Rene Knott of KSDK and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, STL Chapter for the 22nd annual Orchid AAFAir gala. You will enjoy a wonderful evening of entertainment from The Spectrum Band, dinner and drinks and an auction that will wow you. Because of the funds raised from this event, children in St. Louis will breathe easier. Save a life and join in the fun at this longtime St. Louis tradition. This year, the late Marty Hendin, a longtime supporter of the AAFA organization will be honored.

The Charity Event: Falling in Love in Five Courses

Save the date: Saturday, March 10, 2012, cocktails at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7:45 p.m.

The Beneficiary: Proceeds from the event will benefit students and educational programs at St. Louis Community College.

Get the Scoop: Join the father of modern Mexican cuisine, World renowned Chef Richard Sandoval and St. Louis Community College’s Celebrity Executive Pastry Chef, Chef Casey Shiller, 2011 winner of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, along with students from the college’s Culinary Arts program for the fourth annual Falling in Love in Five Courses black tie gala. The St. Louis Community College Foundation’s annual gala will feature a five-course meal by Sandoval with wine pairings. Four Seasons’ Cielo restaurant executive chef, Fabrizio Schenardi will join the others to prepare a meal you are sure to love. Come enjoy the taste of upscale Latin dishes prepared  and support the education of local culinary students.

The Charity Event: Illumination 2012

The Beneficiary: Proceeds benefit The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s Cancer Frontier Fund. Illumination has generously supported the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center’s fight against cancer.

Get the Scoop: This year, a special guest performance by Oscar nominee, Minnie Driver will be one of the many highlights of the evening at the annual Illumination 2012 Gala. This can’t-miss event of the year draws around 600 attendees for an unforgettable evening of entertainment and philanthropy. Attendees will enjoy a lovely cocktail reception, superb dinner, auction and a special performance by Minnie Driver. Join the community and the leadership of St. Louis’s top companies, foundations and boards to help Stiteman Cancer Center save the lives of those in St. Louis and beyond. 2012 Co-Chairs include: Tom Hillman, Owner & Managing Partner, FTL Capital LLC and Ron Kruszewski, President & CEO, Stifel Nicolaus.
