Villa Duchesne Student Turns Passion Into Volunteer Project

Whiz Kid Molly Flood created a library for children's center and earned her Girl Scout Gold Award.

Name: Molly Flood

School: Villa Duchesne High School

Grade: Junior.

Accomplishment: Molly helped build a reading area for children at Edgewood Children's Center, a news release states. The center benefits young people who have behavioral and emotional disorders.

Key to awesomeness: Molly decided to build a reading area, but she first had to get books to stock it, the release states. So she held a drive at her school and collected more than 1,000 books. She also built bookshelves and decorated them with famous quotes tied to reading.

"Reading has always been a way for me to 'escape' from reality and enter a different world," Molly stated in the release. "I wanted the kids at Edgewood to be able to experience that too."

The volunteer project is a component of Molly's effort to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award.

Ann Rexford, volunteer program manager at Edgewood, stated that the site is in use and popular with the kids.

"We are so happy Molly chose us," Rexford stated in the release. "She is an extraordinary young woman and her gift will provide a lot of joy for the kids."
