Ribs, Ice Cream, Movies and More

As the weather starts to become more like spring, Ladue and Frontenac venues offer warm-weather activities.

Whether you’re in the mood for an acclaimed movie or something more light-hearted, we found a variety of activities close to home for you to do this weekend and next week. If you adventure further east, remember this weekend will be busy with the annual Humane Society of Missouri’s Bark in the Park in Forest Park as well as commencement and reunion activities for Washington University and commencement at Saint Louis University.

Incendies Opens on Friday
The dramatic story of this Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film begins with the reading of a mother’s will. Brother and sister twins discover their father, long thought dead, is still alive and that they have a brother they never knew existed.  Marshall Fine of Huffington Post said of this film: “Has the weight of Greek tragedy and the white-knuckle twists of a great thriller.”

Where/When: Landmark Theatres Plaza Frontenac Cinema, 210 Plaza Frontenac; opens Friday.

Pricing: $9.00 general; $7.00 bargain (M-F all shows before 6 p.m., Sat, Sun,  holidays 1st show of the day); $7.00 senior (62+); $7.00 child (-12)

Ice Cream and Cake
Maggie Moo’s has graduation ice cream cakes for the student in your life. And for those who want a smaller bit of cake, try out their very popular ice cream cupcakes. With warmer weather on the horizon, get a cone or cup of your favorite flavor and sit outside on their park benches to enjoy spring. The most popular flavor is Better Batter (tastes like cake batter); kids love the bright blue Cotton Candy ice cream; and for the health-conscious try the six non-fat yogurt flavors (vanilla, chocolate and peanut butter are staples with three new flavors added each Friday).

Where/When: Maggie Moo’s, 8853 Ladue Rd., Ladue;
Monday—Thursday 11 a.m.—10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.—11 p.m., Sunday noon—10 p.m.

BBQ Ribs and Pork Steaks
While Schneithorst’s Restaurants’ Beer Garden (upper deck) has been open since April 28, just this past weekend the restaurant started offering BBQ ribs and pork steaks on the weekends.  General Manager Steve Stockhausen said their baby-back ribs and 16-ounce boneless pork steaks are slow smoked, then baked for an hour before finishing on the BBQ pit. Topped with Schneithorsts’ special BBQ sauce, the meats come with baked beans, potato salad or cole slaw. These summer-only dishes will be available Friday—Sunday from now until Labor day in the Beer Garden, restaurant and carry out.

Where/When: Schneithorst’s Restaurants, 1600 S. Lindbergh Blvd., Ladue
