Pop Up Lunch to Benefit No Kid Hungry Campaign

Wednesday is Food Day 2012. Eat out at Operation Food Search and help feed hungry children in the area.

In honor of Food Day 2012, Operation Food Search is hosting a pop up lunch between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at its distribution center at 6282 Olive in University City, prepared by Chef John Johnson from River City Casino and Lumière Place Casino and Hotels. 

Brown bag to-go lunches are available while supplies last for a $10 donation to No Kid Hungry, an awareness and advocacy campaign to end childhood hunger.

Lunch options include:

  • Chilled shrimp po'boy, spicy pecan brittle mayo, creole potato salad, Louisiana
    sugar cookie
  • Missouri hickory smoked turkey club, pickled cucumber and tomatoes, gooey 
  • butter cookie
  • Avocado grinder, artichoke antipasto, steel oat raisin cookie

The public is also welcome to tour Operation Food Search’s distribution center between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. during Food Day and/or drop in to stuff backpacks with food for Operation Backpack, a program that provides food for the weekend to children at risk for hunger.

Operation Food Search was established in 1981 to address the growing problem of hunger and has since become the largest distributor of free food in the bi-state area. The organization distributes more than two million pounds of food and household items to 250 community partner agencies which in turn feed 140,000 poor people each month, nearly one-third of whom are children. 

For every dollar donated by individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations, Operation Food Search provides $22 worth of food and nutrition services to support the hungry.
