Pick Five in Ladue and Frontenac

While waiting for the jonquils and crocuses to start peeking through the frozen mulch, take in some of these events sprouting around the area.

Tuesday, March 1

. St. Louis County Library, 1604  S. Lindbergh Blvd., will celebrate Teen Tech Week 2011 with an entire month of programming in March. This year’s line up includes podcast workshops, DJ Hero competitions, an internet scavenger hunt, techno art projects, and more. Programs will be offered at all 20 locations. Douglas Lowney will give the final speaker in the Sacred Heart Spirituality Series at 9:30 a.m. in the Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School parlor dining room, 801  S. Spoede Rd.  The topic will be “Tradition and Innovation in Sacred Heart Education.” The series has been sponsored by the Mums of Alums at Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School. Read St. Louis kicks off at 7 p.m. when critically acclaimed novelist, Joyce Carol Oates comes to the St. Louis County Library Headquarters, 1604 Lindbergh Blvd., to discuss her new memoir “A Widow’s Story,” which is the Distinguished Literary Achievement selection for Read St. Louis and presented by the County Library and St. Louis Public Library. Books will be available for signing from Pudd’nHead Books, 37 S. The Ladue High School, 1201 S. Warson Rd., will hold their second annual district Parent University from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the high school. A variety of topics will be presented for parents to learn effective strategies in the areas of education and parenting issues including such speakers as Dr. Milt Rubin, Dr. Timothy Jordan, Dr. Doug Pettinelli, Dr. Michele Bryan, and Nancy Burkemeier. The event is free for Ladue School parents with children preschool age through high school. Free childcare will be available with advanced registration.

Saturday, March 5

Dollars for Scholars Mardi Gras event will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The Gallery at ISC, 9215 Dielman Industrial Court. Proceeds will be awarded to Ladue High School 2011 seniors through the Ladue Scholarship Fund. Tickets are $50 and include heavy appetizers, drinks, entertainment, auction and a raffle.
