Patch Picks in Frontenac and Ladue for May 23-30

Graduation Day looms along with summer ready programs and discussion groups. Much to see and do.

The big day for seniors hovers just around the corner. The following schools will have their ceremonies within the next two weeks:

 Monday, May 23.  The Adult Reading Club encourages hungry readers to complete 1- books or 50 hours of reading time during the 12 weeks between May 23 and August 18. Participants will receive journals when they sign up which includes space to record titles completed along with reading suggestions. Those who complete either 10 books or 50 hours will be entered into a drawing to win gift cards from Nordstrom, Starbucks, Companion, and St. Louis Bread Company; Mary Engelbreit Tote Bags; signed first editions of popular books; and tickets from the St. Louis Cardinals and Landmark Theatres.

 Wednesday, May 25. Former St. Louisan and popular mystery writer Elaine Viets will discuss and sign her new novel, “Pumped for Murder: A Dead-End Job Mystery,” at 7 p.m. at the library headquarters, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd. A former St. Louis Post Dispatch columnist, Viets returns to St. Louis to talk about the latest installment in her popular Dead-End Job mystery series starring runaway St. Louisan and private investigator Helen Hawthorne. The program is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase at the event from Pudd’nHead Books.

 Saturday, May 28. The Bridgeton Trails Branch of the St. Louis County Library will hold a book sale to raise funds for tornado victims. The sale will run from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Books, magazines, DVDs and music CDs will be offered for sale at very low prices. All proceeds will be donated to Bridgeton Tornado Relief Fund. The Bridgeton Trails Branch is located at 3455 McKelvey Rd. in Bridgeton.
