Patch Picks for June 20 through June 26 in Ladue, Frontenac

Summer goes into full swing with a variety of things to do.

Run between the raindrops and check out some of these activities going on in Ladue/Frontenac this week.

Monday, June 20.  The City of Frontenac is asking if those who have time on their hands or who are “people persons” who enjoy interacting with others would be interested in the Neighbor Driving Neighbor program offered by the St. Louis County Department of Human Services’ County Older Resident Program, (CORP).   • Monday, June 20. Bring your children ages 3 and up to “Read Around the World” at 2 p.m. Travel the globe through stories and crafts, rediscover beloved folk tales from around the world, and create a craft from the story. Registration required. Space is limited. 
  • Tuesday, June 21. The Baby Summer Reading Club will present “Go, Baby, Go” at 10 a.m. for stories, songs, and a craft about things on the go. Registration is required. 
  • Tuesday, June 21.  Adults and teens interested in genealogy will have a chance to explore this further at a program aimed at familiarizing people with this field.  This class will introduce attendees to Footnote.com and HeritageQuestOnline.com. Emphasis at Footnote.com will be on city directories and unique features allowing uploading of photos and other documents.  Time is 2 p.m.
  •  Tuesday, June 21.  “Minute to Win It,” for teens. For those who like the popular game show, now is the chance to try the challenges first hand. Join other teens to see if you have what it takes to beat the clock. For grades six through 12. 7 p.m. Registration required. 
  • Wednesday, June 22. The Children’s Story Time will present “A Family is A Family” starting at 10 a.m. Recommended for ages 3 to 6. 
  • Friday, June 24. The Summer Reading Club presents “The Lion and the Mouse,” a puppet show by Papa and Jackie Wright, that adapts the classic Aesop fable teaching that a kindness is never wasted. Ages 3 and up. Space is limited. 
  • Saturday, June 25.For its team program, Art @Your Library will feature “Battle of the Bands” at 6:30 p.m. Teens are invited to come and watch local bands duke it out in a musical battle royale at the second Annual Saint Louis County Library Battle of the Bands.

  •  Tuesday, June 21. Storytime will present Alice Low’s “Summer” where two friends and a dog share the joys of swimming, fishing, gardening, watching fireworks, and chasing butterflies. They also swing, ride a haywagon, and visit a farm, a far, and the beach. What do like to do in the summer? Time is 10 a.m. 
  • Wednesday, June 22. The German conversation Group will meet at 7 p.m. the group is open to all ability levels and members and practice their German conversational skills by discussing far-ranging topics.

Thursday, June 23. Pulitzer Prize Finalist Edward Achorn will discuss and sign his book, “Fifty-nine in 84,” at 7 p.m. at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd. In 1884, Providence Grays pitcher “Old Hoss” Randbourn won an astonishing 59 games,  games – more than anyone in major-league history ever had before, or ever will again. His book tells not only the dramatic story of that amazing feat of grit, but also the tale of big-league baseball two decades after the Civil War—a brutal, bloody sport played barehanded, the profession of ill-educated, hard-drinking men who thought little of cheating outrageously or maiming an opponent to win. Friday, June 24. Bissinger’s Chocolates, 97 Plaza Frontenac, is accepting orders for one of their most popular products.
