Patch Picks Five in Frontenac and Ladue

Events are starting to rev up in Ladue and Frontenac, so the lazy, hazy crazy days of summer will soon be a distant memory. Start marking your calendar for fun fall, starting this week.

Monday, August 29. St. Joseph Academy, 2307 Lindbergh Blvd., will hold the first Fathers’ Club meeting of the school year at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Snacks and beverages will be provided. This is a great chance to meet the new SJA dads while catching up with the old ones. RSVP to Pam Williams at pwilliams@stjosephacademy.org.

Tuesday, August 30. Ladue Schools, in cooperation with the Clayton School District, will provide volunteer tutors, through the OASIS Tutoring Program, for students in kindergarten through third grade. An informational meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the Center of Clayton, 50 Gay Ave.  Anyone interested is invited to come and learn about the program and ask questions. Wednesday, August 31. Popular children’s book author, Judy Schachner, will discuss her new picture book, “Skippyjon Jones, Class Action,” at 7 p.m. at the St. Louis Library Headquarters, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd. “Skippyjon Jones," a little Siamese cat with a big imagination, wants to go to school, but the school is for dogs. Pudd’nHead Books will have books for purchase. Wednesday, August 31. If you have been wondering if you might have arthritis, attend the 60-Minute Check-up sponsored by the St. Louis County Library and the SLUCare Department of Internal Medicine.The lecture, beginning at 2 p.m., at the Library Headquarters, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd., will be given by Terry Moore, M.D., SLUCare Rheumatologist. Health Literacy Tips will be presented by Christina Pryor, St. Louis County Library Reference Manager.
