Patch Picks Five in Frontenac and Ladue

Summer is fading and fall is picking up with more and more events in our area.

A new season is approaching. Fall brings its own special fun and as  August winds down, the social and school calendars begin to fill.

Monday, August 15, and Tuesday, August 16. St. Joseph Academy, 2307 S. Lindbergh Blvd., will hold orientation for incoming freshmen from 8:05 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Monday. Sophomore, junior and senior orientation will be from 8:05 to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. For more information, call 314-965-7205 or visit www.stjosephacademy.org

Tuesday, August 16. The Frontenac Board of Aldermen will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 10555 Clayton Rd., to discuss the city’s proposed legislation on solar energy panels. Those interested can see the proposal at city hall or on the city’s website www.cityoffrontenac.org. Comments are encouraged at the meeting. Thursday, August 18. Plaza Frontenac, 1701 S. Lindbergh Blvd., will be the setting for two big events. First, The St. Louis Crisis Nursery Celebrity Waitresses' and Waiters' Night Out hold their annual fundraiser. The fun will start with a Happy Hour at Brio’s ,1601 S. Lindbergh Blvd., from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by dinner at Cardwell’s at the Plaza or Canyon Café from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Fleming’s, 1855 S. Lindbergh Blvd., will host an after-party from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. All tips raised will go to the Crisis Nursery. Saks Fifth Avenue will be hosting the St. Louis Charity Horse Show Shopping Event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Shop the Fall 2011 collection from Ralph Lauren Black Label, update your fall face with Trish McEvoy while enjoying appetizers and cocktails from Tito’s Vodka. The event will donate 10 percent of the sales to Stray Rescue of St. Louis and Therapeutic Horsemanship. Cost is $15 and includes a goody bag, raffle tickets and a signature cocktail glass. Thursday, August 18. The Magic House,516 S. Kirkwood Rd., and the St. Louis County Library, 1640 S.
